A picture perfect afternoon by the river at The George Inn at Bathampton
The George Inn is in Bathampton, a lovely leafy quintessential English village just two miles from the centre of Bath. An idyllic location between the River Avon and the Kennet and Avon canal, this is a lovely spot to escape the hustle and bustle of beautiful Bath and is easily reached by following the towpath from the city centre on foot or by bicycle. Those seeking something extra special can hop aboard one of the many pleasure boats that depart regularly from the famous Pultney Bridge.
The George is a traditional ‘olde English’ pub housed in a 12th Century building, with a cosy atmosphere and lovely warming open fires in the winter. The food is all deliciously fresh and made to order with a brilliant and varied menu made up of traditional British classics plus a tasty selection of daily chalkboard specials and, of course, the infamous Sunday Roast. Our favourite meal is the very simple but truly yummy home-cooked ham, egg and chips accompanied by a glass of chilled white wine!
In the summer months this is a lovely spot to idle away an afternoon with friends. There is a large seating area by the canal as well as a generous patch of grass – the perfect place to throw down a blanket and savor the delights of this English country pub as you watch the brightly coloured canal boats gently bob past.
